Advent begins

Our days have been full of steamy baths and droopy eyes as we enter week four of sickness in our house. It seems that just as Emmie gets better she gets another round of colds. But somehow the quiet, stay at home, grey days are perfect for the beginning of advent in which we prepare our hearts for remembering the birth of our Savior.  In these moments I recall His great coming into a dark and fallen world, coming as a tiny babe to save us.

We've been busy despite the colds and Emmie has taken up the recorder and laughs with delight when she produces a sound. She makes us laugh so often with her silly antics, words, animal sounds and expressions of love. In the busy Christmas tuning, teaching, dissertation editing season of life our wee baby girl makes us think of Jesus the baby who came so long ago.  Let every heart prepare Him room.

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel,
shall come to thee o Israel!
