Six!

My darling girl,

You are six years old.  What a blessing you are to us and we rejoice in God's goodness in giving you to us! This year marks a shift to girlhood and the year you became a voracious reader.  You have always loved books, and you were reading before. But this year you read everything under the sun. You read while you walk, in the tub, under the covers, in the car.  If I didn't know better I might think you are Anne with an E.  You are hungry for ideas and knowledge and are trying to discover your place in this dizzy world.  Yet you are tenderhearted and giving, always helping Lena, and seeking the good of others.  Your favorite foods right now: burritos and chocolate. You have a notorious sweet tooth and also like spicy foods.  You love being with people, but do need quiet in your daytime. You enjoy art and nature, creating miniature books, coloring and writing letters. You are also taking off in your piano skills, singing hymns and memorizing and narrating.  How we love you.  Happy birthday sweet girl!

Saucey

When I think of October I think of apples and Emmeline's birthday.  I remember being 9 month pregnant making sauce sitting down.  Well this year we almost forgot to make applesauce. We were so busy learning and being we realized that boy-it's time! We squeezed it in on a warm day and I know we'll be happy we did. A hayride on an alpaca farm, pressing flowers, working on rhymes and counting, practicing piano and dressing up the cat have been part of our October happenings.  Now we only have a few more days of Emmie B as a five year old!

Back to school

It's hard to believe it's mid September.  Moving has caused me to lose track of time.  Nonetheless life keeps moving forward and that means the girls are back to homeschool.  This year we have a first grader and a second year preschooler.  We started back to ballet and Co-op, a new monthly art gathering, learning with friends and the hatching of monarch butterflies.  Having a reader this year makes all of learning so exciting. Emmeline can't stop reading.  She's my daughter and has already stayed up late reading, read in the bath tub and walks around with a book all the time. We've begun to call her Anne with an E.  Lena is intrigued by this and is working hard on her letters so she too can read.  Lena is excited about learning this year and is starting piano lessons, a special date with a friend each week (just her!). We started French as a family! It's fun learning in our new school room and we've already made precious memories.
