and now, a word from the Y chromosome

Greetings, readers of our blog. Today I am at home working on my research on the 1673 Neues Vollstandiges Eisenachisches Gesangbuch (The New, Complete Eisenach Hymnal), as is usually the case on Fridays. But today is not just a Friday, it is the one day out of every year on which Christ's sufferings on the Cross are memorialized in Churches everywhere, liberal and conservative.

Even in churches that do not usually even mention sin, today we are all sinners standing before the Cross where Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice for sin. In honor of this I am uploading an illustration from the Eisenach hymnal, and below are some slightly-poetic musings for your perusal.

___________
some haiku on a high, holy day

hosanna! they cry
humiliation to come
how soon they all turn

crucify! they cry
it was our sin, none his own
crucify! we cry

the best friday, now
God's only Son does suffer
yet will rise again

Celebrating Her: Barbara J. Kleeman

My Momma

April 16th is my Mother's 60th Birthday.  We're missing her today, wishing she was here. We feel the sting of death in our home as her absence is so keenly felt.  But we're praising Jesus for conquering death once and for all and for the promise of eternity with Him and with her too.  Happy Birthday dearest Momma.  We love you forever.

Longing for Spring

"Can we ever open the windows" Harriet asks?

This was last year at the Perkiomen Trail. I looked for the bluebells the other day and they are there. But no flowers yet. It has been too cold.

It has begun

So, we're calling it spring here in our house, even though the weather has been fairly gloomy.  We're making spring/summer recipes and we're starting our gardens!

A new favorite dish: Grilled Chicken Salad with Spicy Pineapple Dressing (For the Love of Cooking blog)

We made our own Tapioca Pudding the other night. It was amazing and we wish we'd made double batches

Adam is preparing our gardens. Two more weeks and maybe we'll be
having lovely sunny weather? Here's hoping.

Will this be enough space? We hope so.

The plant babies are coming right along. It looks as if we'll have enough tomatoes!

A week's snapshots

Not too much time around here- we're busy busy. But here are a few pictures for your enjoyment that catalog a few things in our week.
Samuel David came to visit. He loved the fireplace

Doesn't he look like such a big boy?

These are coconut white/semi sweet chip cookies. I feel vindicated. A working oven is amazing!
I was beginning to think that I failed as a baker. But cookies and bread and beef all work. Whew-what a relief.

Sweet and Sour chicken and spring asparagus- trying some new recipes.
Adam is a fine cook!

We've decided Maggie must be part Rag-Doll. This is her favorite way to be held.
She is such a baby!
Did you know that cats eat lettuce? I didn't until I came downstairs to find this! They ran off
with huge pieces, so proud and so excited to have stolen some salad.
